Tianjin Vanke Jade Avenue: A Beacon of Architectural Brilliance

LDPi China Branch's Award-Winning Design of a Sales Center in Tianjin

Located in the Qingxi district of Tianjin, China, the Tianjin Vanke Jade Avenue Sales Center stands as a testament to innovative architectural design. The project, designed by LDPi China Branch, draws inspiration from the natural reflection of the waterscape, using it to virtually double the volume of the building. The design combines a contemporary glass curtain wall with aluminum panels shaped into arches, reminiscent of the early 1900s architecture in the Five Avenue of Southern downtown, formerly known as the British Concession.

The building is split into two wings by a skylight, which transforms itself into two glass curtain wall entrances. The facade lighting takes advantage of the waterscape to naturally mirror and virtually double the volume of the building. Three separate layers of LED lights illuminate each of the three distinct layers of arches that differ by depth, height, and width. The skylight and main entrances are lit by the warm interior glow, creating a welcoming ambiance for visitors.

Each area inside the building is treated distinctly based on its function with LED lights. The facade lights and interior lights specifications are meticulously chosen to ensure the best lighting effect. The lighting design part of the project started in April 2017 and the project opened in November 2017.

Experiments and mockups were crucial in the realization of the facade. The most challenging element for the facade was to ensure that lighting fixtures that were confirmed during the mockups were properly and actually commissioned to be used in the actual and final facade. Despite the challenges, the project was successful, and the Tianjin Vanke Jade Avenue Sales Center stands as a key project from a lighting point of view.

The design was awarded Platinum in A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award in 2019, recognizing its world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative design that showcases unmatched professionalism, genius, and contributes to societal wellbeing. The award is given to designs that advance the boundaries of art, science, design, and technology, exhibiting transcendent excellence and making the world a better place.
